Sawroop Krishna Sharma

Sawroop Krishna Sharma

In 1988 Mr. Sharma established a "Green Library of Environmental Sciences", the first of its kind in India.

He has organised several national and international exhibitions and seminars, to promote environmental conservation and sustainable development.

He is secretary of the Environmental Society of India, an NGO active in environmental awareness, research and training which he founded in 1976 (the first in India).

David T. Suzuki

An eloquent communicator on environmental issues and the host of several radio and TV programmes, including the popular Canadian broadcasting corporation TV series "The Nature of Things", and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation radio series "It's a Matter of Survival".

He writes a weekly syndicated newspaper column on the environment and is the author of six children's books. He was awarded the UN Gold Medal, UNESCO's Kalinga Prize and holds 11 honorary degrees from Canada and US. He is an Officer of the Order of Canada.

Ven Kirantidiye Pannasekera

A Sri-Lankan Buddhist monk who promotes rural environmental protection.

Since 1981 ven Thera has organised more than 1,000 villagers to conserve forests and carry out afforestation programmes to protect areas threatened by development projects.

He established a model village in Galahitiya, which practices sustainable development and is an inspiration to neighbouring communities.
