Adel R. Awad
A member of key national environment commissions on marine protection, water safety and urbanism.
His major contributions include pollution treatment in Syria's largest water project. His research forms the basis for water resource quality management and hydrology (sewage and stormwater networks and treatment) in large Syrian cities such as Damascus, Aleppo, and Lattakia.
Ahmad Abu Musa
Dr. Abu Musa is the president of the Ba'ath Pioneer Organisation. The organisation aims to promote environmental consciousness among young people. Activities include seminars, symposiums, children's seminars, and tree planting projects in camps and schools. "Green Carpet" competitions, exhibitions for plants and flowers, and theatre are also used to convey the message of sustainable development
Abdullatif K. Youssef
In 1981, Professor Youssef, Director of the Marine Institute of Syria, conducted research on air pollution in Kuwait for the first time in an Arab country. This research determined the high risk polluting effect that the chemical character of recycled oil had on the environment. Much of his recommendations have been adopted by the authorities. Professor Youssef has initiated graduate study programmes on marine environment.
