A conservationist responsible for the creation of several national parks and the protection of endangered species in the Seychelles.
He successfully campaigned for the proclamation of the Aldabra Atoll as a World Heritage.
Seychelles Islands Foundation
Since 1979, the Foundation has successfully managed the Aldabra Atoll in the Indian Ocean, a world heritage site with many giant tortoises and flightless birds.
The Atoll is also an important breeding ground for the endangered green turtles and frigate birds.
Kantilal Jivan Shah
For nearly 30 years, Mr. Shah has been active in conservation and environmental activities which resulted in the creation of Marine National Parks and Nature Reserves. He has also been instrumental in establishing coastal and nature reserve management, protection of sea turtles and the conservation of mangrove swamps.
He has brought environmental issues and the need for conservation to the forefront of public awareness.
Mr. Shah has been involved in the passing of the following legislation: creation of Ste. Anne Marine National Park; Vallee de Mai Reserve; Port Launay Marine National Park, the Protection of Shells Act; Animal and Bird Protection; Controlled Cropping of Seabirds' Eggs; Protection of Turtles; and the Seychelles Marine Mammal Sanctuary.
