In 1995-6 Paul Harrison was editor-in-chief of the Independent Commission on Population and Quality of Life, whose report was published as Caring for the Future (Oxford University Press, 1996).

Paul Harrison has edited flagship reports for the United Nations Population Fund (State of the World Population) and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (including Livestock's Long Shadow on the environmental impact of livestock).
Between 2004 and 2008 he edited the United Nations Environment Programme Yearbook (formerly Geo Yearbook).
He is also President of the World Pantheist Movement, which he founded in 1999, and author of Elements of Pantheism (Element Books 1999 and Llumina Press 2004). Pantheism is a form of spirituality centered on Nature.
