Paljor Dorje

Mr. Dorge is at present the Ambassador, Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Bhutan to the United Nations. He relinquished his post as Chief Justice in 1988 and became Deputy Minister in the Ministry of Social Services until April 1991.

He successfully campaigned with the Royal Government for the Bhutan Trust Fund for the Conservation of Nature with the participation of Global Environment Facility (GEF), World Wildlife Fund (WWF-USA) and the Royal Netherlands Government. The Trust Fund was functional from March 1991. He continues to be an active campaigner in the protection of Bhutan's fragile and endangered bio-diversity.

He established the Royal Society for the Protection of Nature, the first NGO in Bhutan concerned with environmental awareness and conservation of endangered species and migratory birds. He successfully campaigned for the protection of wintering sites for the endangered black-necked cranes.
