Food for School Afghanistan
Supports the Education of Young Girls
The Food For School Project, inspired by Zarghuna Kargar’s (2012) book Dear Zari and the 2013 film Girl Rising, supports the education of young girls in Afghanistan by feeding their families.
Educating young girls not only prevents early marriage and childbirth-related deaths, but also prepares girls to find jobs and take their places as valuable, active citizens.
A monthly $100 (USD) donation to Food for School through the Global 500 Environmental Forum feeds a family of nine and ensures that parents commit to sending all their children—both girls and boys—to school. Your donation goes directly to support the education of young girls and boys by feeding their families. Additional donations will provide shoes and outerwear so that, in cold and harsh climates, the children may walk to school.
The education of young girls in Afghanistan has been particularly difficult due to extreme poverty and lack of female rights. However, a partnership between the G500EF and the respected BBC reporter Zarghuna Kargar makes this possible. Our dedicated volunteers personally monitor school attendance and distribute funds on a monthly basis to families who agree to keep all their children in school. Our goal is to ensure everyone of our children receives an education.
As said by Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway in Girl Rising, educating young girls is one of the wisest investments of our time. You can participate in the education of young girls in Afghanistan simply by feeding their families..
Thank you for feeding families and supporting their dream of educating their children
